  • Add CSI Snapshot E2E Tests to Kind CI

LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort

Velero supports CSI volume snapshots for backing up and restoring persistent volumes, and e2e tests for this functionality already exist in the codebase, labeled with Snapshot, CSISnapshot, and CSIDataMover in the Ginkgo test suite. However, these tests never run in the project's Kind-based CI pipeline. The Kind e2e workflow (e2e-test-kind.yaml) creates a cluster with MinIO for object storage but installs no CSI driver, no external-snapshotter, and no snapshot controller. The Ginkgo label matrix explicitly excludes all Snapshot and CSI* labels, so existing CSI tests are filtered out of every PR check and nightly run. This means CSI snapshot regressions are only caught late, during manual testing against real cloud providers, rather than in automated CI on every PR. The kubernetes-csi/csi-driver-host-path project provides a lightweight CSI driver that supports VolumeSnapshots and VolumeGroupSnapshots on local storage, runs on single-node Kind clusters, and requires no cloud infrastructure. It is the approach recommended in the upstream tracking issue #7507.
