Add Claude Code Skills for deploying OpenYurt and configuring Raven
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
OpenYurt extends Kubernetes to the edge, but its deployment and Raven network configuration involve complex prerequisites, CRDs (Custom Resource Definitions), and node conversions, creating a steep learning curve. This project aims to integrate executable "Claude Code Skills" directly into the OpenYurt repository, transforming static documentation into interactive, AI-driven deployment workflows triggered by slash commands such as /openyurt-deploy. You will need to build Markdown-based skills with security constraints that guide the AI assistant through the end-to-end setup of OpenYurt. Key tasks include implementing the /openyurt-deploy skill—covering label-based node conversion and autonomous capability verification—followed by the /openyurt-raven skill for cross-region VPN configuration. These skills will utilize YAML Frontmatter to restrict the AI tool to executing only safe shell commands and will decouple entry points from troubleshooting references to ensure maintainability.

Implement Label-Driven Automated Installation and Uninstallation of YurtHub on Edge Nodes
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
Currently, in OpenYurt, the core component YurtHub—which acts as a transparent proxy between edge node system components (e.g., kubelet, CNI, CoreDNS, kube-proxy) and the Kubernetes API server—is deployed as a systemd service on each edge node. The installation is performed exclusively via the community-provided tool YurtAdm during node joining. This approach imposes a significant limitation: users must use YurtAdm to onboard nodes, making it impossible to install YurtHub on existing Kubernetes nodes that were not initially provisioned with YurtAdm. To improve flexibility and user experience, the community aims to support a label-driven, declarative installation mechanism: When a specific label (e.g., openyurt.io/is-edge-worker=true) is added to a node, YurtHub should be automatically installed and started on that node. Conversely, when the label is removed, YurtHub should be gracefully uninstalled and its resources cleaned up. This enhancement will enable seamless integration of OpenYurt into existing Kubernetes clusters without requiring re-onboarding of nodes.

OpenYurt Docker Extension for Simplified Deployment
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
OpenYurt is an open-source edge cloud-native platform designed to streamline application management in edge computing scenarios. However, the current installation process can be complex for newcomers, creating a barrier to adoption. This project aims to significantly improve the user experience by creating a Docker Extension for OpenYurt. The extension will enable users to install and configure a complete OpenYurt environment, including the yurt-dashboard, with a single click directly from the Docker Desktop interface. This will dramatically lower the entry barrier, allowing developers and edge computing enthusiasts to quickly set up a local development and testing environment, thereby fostering greater community engagement and accelerating innovation on the platform.
- Familiarity with Docker and the Docker Extension SDK.
- Experience with frontend development (e.g.
- React/TypeScript
- Vue) for building the extension's user interface.
- Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) or Golang for automating the installation and configuration scripts.
- A solid understanding of Kubernetes concepts and the OpenYurt architecture.

OpenYurt Dashboard Enhancements
LFX Mentorship · Listed in the official cohort
| OpenYurt is an open-source edge cloud-native platform designed to streamline application management and resource orchestration in edge computing scenarios. This project aims to enhance the yurt-dashboard (the core management interface of OpenYurt) by implementing internationalization support, integrating edge AI capabilities, and upgrading core API versions to improve global accessibility, technical innovation, and system stability. The project will leverage the React frontend framework, Golang backend services, and Kubernetes ecosystem toolchain to provide developers with a more efficient edge cloud-native experience. expectedOutcome: i18n Implementation: Extract existing Chinese text and complete English translations using LinguiJS framework Implement frontend language-switching functionality with dynamic user selection Edge AI Integration: Containerize and develop deployment templates for at least 3 open-source edge AI applications in the dashboard API Modernization: Align with OpenYurt' latest API standards to ensure platform compatibility and security.
- Proficiency in React/TypeScript and LinguiJS internationalization framework
- Strong Golang backend development skills with Kubernetes Operator pattern knowledge
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes API mechanisms and CRD version migration experience
- Prior experience in edge computing or AI application deployment (e.g.
- KubeEdge
- K3s)
